Species: Cybertronian Canon: Transformers IDW Canon Point: After Lost Light #18 Character Info: link Personality: Anode is fast-talking, wise-cracking, and irreverent, all with a generally good humor, although she has absolutely no problem being rude. Her brain-to-mouth filter should probably be on recall; she doesn’t embarrass easily, and she's shameless when it comes to showing off. Her moral code is flexible enough to justify doing shady work for shady clients or, you know, straight up stealing. She’s not a wholly selfish person, but she’s spent a long time just scraping by, and she sometimes falls into the “us or them” mindset. Adventure is one of her true passions. Exploration and treasure-hunting (ahem, archaeology) are things she’s got a talent for, which go hand-in-hand with her compulsive wanderlust. And she’s apparently a pretty dang good explorer, considering she stumbled upon Caminus centuries before they made contact with Cybertron. She’s always in pursuit of new and shiny things, and apparently that includes Lost Colonies, though she takes on a lot of work in the acquisitions department for paying clients. She’s in it for the thrill of adventure and the satisfaction of a paycheck. She’s interested in the pursuit of knowledge, too, enough that she was willing to stay on Caminus for some time to study robot obstetrics, the original purpose for which she was forged. But mostly treasure. Treasure pays the bills. Underneath all that swagger, though, Anode is also kind of a huge loser. Coping with failure is not one of her strengths, and she doesn’t take sympathy or understanding for her mistakes all too well. Anode would much rather people think the worst of her than feel bad for her, even going so far as self-sabotage. She’s pretty good at pretending she doesn’t care about what other people think of her, but the truth is that disappointment and pity make her uncomfortable. The swagger and confidence keep her cool in a crisis, though, and she thinks well on her feet. Sometimes her devil-may-care attitude makes her seem a little too chill in the midst of Shit Going Down, but she’s very much a “solve the immediate problem now, deal with the rest later” kind of person. Anode is pretty materially (and excitement) driven, and her approach toward life might make her kind of a loner if it weren't for how absolutely gay she is. She left her partner Lug behind for some time while she went off to adventure and study, but ultimately she missed Lug too much to go on searching the stars without her. She comes off as kind of a rude jackass, but her heart is where her wife is. Lug mostly just wants to make enough money for the two of them to settle down quietly, and while Anode lives for adventure, she also lives for making Lug happy. Abilities: Cybertronians are pretty tough and can recover from some pretty extreme injuries if the right care is available. She can also turn into a biplane, and being an archaeologist, she’s also got some pretty neat probes she hides in her fingers that can tell her about the geological and chemical makeup of things by touch. Her experience as an adventurer and explorer also make her great at tracking down and finding things—treasure-hunting for third parties was pretty much her job before her near-death. In addition to the standard space robot stuff, she’s also a blacksmith, aka robot obstetrician. There’s a lot of training involved in being a blacksmith, but it’s also a naturally occurring ability to be honed rather than just a trade to be learned. What the fuck is robot obstetrics, you ask? GREAT QUESTION. Blacksmithing primarily involves helping bring newly harvested sparks to term into protoforms so they can assume their final form. Anode never actually finished robot obstetrician school, but she did once revive her wife from the dead using her unfinished education, so she’s got a certain amount of skill.
